Back Hatch won't Open

Hi folks! I just bought an '07 Volvo XC90 and I'm a newbie. Question is "How do you get the rear hatchback door opened up?" I've played with the remote and unlocked the doors repeatedly. Is that small tab in the middle of the rear door a latch? If so, it doesn't move for me. When you guys do it, do you just squeeze on that latch? And my grandson crawled inside the back compartment, pushed that red button and pushed down the lever and it didn't open it either. Is there a secret I don't know? Thanks! Larry

Yup, it is pretty straight forward. Sounds like the actuator might have gone bad. On your fob, unlock the vehicle and then press and hold the rear hatch button for a second. You should hear it pop. Make sure you are standing by the back so you can listen for it in the hatch when you press the button. If you hear the actuator working in the hatch, it is likely linkage or the actuator itself is broken. If you don't hear the actuator, it could be bad or there's a short/ broken wiring
