I guess it also depends on your age, deductible and how much you drive it. We list ours as a second car for leisure driving. My wife and I are also in our late 40s with clean driving records and great credit. $3k a month is still very high.
Have your kids take a defensive driving course. Provide the certificate of completion to your insurance company and you may possibly get a lower rate. Also, you may pay less if they have a B average in school.
