Even though the all-new 2016 Volvo XC90 hasn't been released, customers are already lining up to get their hands on it. The crossover is easily one of the most exciting vehicles the Swedish automaker has put out in a long time, thanks to not only a clean design but also the promise of luxury and technology that surpasses what has been available from Volvo in the past.
Volvo has reported that over 16,000 people have already put in orders for the XC90. Apparently those people have liked what they've already seen in the vehicle, including the new direction it's signaling for the company.
One of the areas where the 2016 XC90 shines is safety, which shouldn't be a surprise for a Volvo. It comes with a road-departure safety system that includes springs embedded into the seats, protecting against spinal injuries. The interior also boasts plenty of upgrades, from Nappa leather to diamond-cut controls and flame birch accents. Among the new technologies debuting in the three-row crossover is a touchscreen and infotainment interface that some are calling out as the best that has ever been offered in a vehicle.
Volvo is also pushing the envelope when it comes to the XC90′s powertrain. Buyers can choose between a gas-only setup and a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid that allows for electric-only driving. Both come with a four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine that kicks out an impressive 320 horsepower. The hybrid powertrain puts out about 400 horsepower.
Throw in a roomier interior (including more third-row space) and a clean design, and people seem to be pretty interested in the new generation of the XC90. If the new model is already this popular, there's a strong possibility that this will be the vehicle that reignites the brand's sales. Volvo's counting on it, because there are plenty more models like this one that will be coming out in the near future.
