Did an oil change today in this order.
1. Opened fill cap
2. Removed pan drain bolt
3. Remover oil filter element cap from top of housing
4. Pulled oil filter element out.
At this point the oil filter element housing was full of oil and did not drain as it had in past services.
Is this a check valve that is open when filter element is removed and closed when installed? If not, any idea on cause?
Does this pose a problem at all?
I have removed all of the oil from the housing using a Turkey baster. I don’t see any issues other than perhaps that valve (?) may be stuck in the closed position.
any insight would be greatly appreciated. 2013 3.2L AWD XC90
